Abu Khaled, spokesman of the brigades told reporters in Gaza City that the attack on the Israeli troops comes in retaliation to the ongoing Israeli aggressions, and the killing of Omar Al-Qawasmy, who was murdered in cold blood in the West Bank city of Hebron Friday morning.

On Friday night in the central Gaza Strip, an Israeli soldier was killed and four others were wounded in an exchange of fire that ensued between an Israel force and Palestinian resistance fighters east of Al-Burij refugee camp. Israeli media sources reported that the soldier was killed when a mortar shot by the army hit the soldiers near the security fence that separate Gaza from Israel.

Residents living in the area of the incident said that they heard sounds of gunfire and explosions. They added that the helicopters were seen backing the troops on the ground as they fired intensively in the area. No one in the Palestinian side was wounded during the clashes.

The Israeli Haaretz daily newspaper reported that an Israeli paratroopers patrol noticed a group of armed people approaching the security fence. It is presumed that the armed group was planning to lay explosives at the foot of the barrier. The army had apparently launched the mortars at the Palestinian fighters, but for some unknown reason one of the mortars strayed and struck the soldiers.
