In a strongly worded condemnation, Ihsanoglu said the mufti’s home in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of the city was acquired unjustly and that its demolition to build a settlement in its stead is a flagrant violation of international law.

He added that the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits occupying powers from changing the features of occupied territories and seizing private properties to create settlements.

The secretary general also stressed that the OIC will act on all possible levels to stop the Israelis, and appealed to all states and relevant international bodies to take immediate action to prevent Israel from carrying on with the plan, which would interrupt the contiguity between the Palestinian neighborhoods in the occupied East Jerusalem territories.

Ihsanoglu received on Saturday at his office a delegation from Al-Husseini’s heirs and discussed with them ways to protect the house.
