- JEDDAH: Two teenagers were arrested in Jeddah’s Al-Bawadi district on suspicion of stealing a handbag belonging to a 26-year-old Ethiopian overstayer.
“The two teens were in a 2009 Jeep at around 10 p.m. when one of the two reached out from the window, grabbed the woman’s handbag and drove off,” said police spokesman Col. Misfer Al-Juaid.
The woman contacted the police straight away and provided a description and license plate number of the vehicle. “Officers were able to locate the vehicle and arrest the two youths who admitted to stealing the handbag. The bag was returned to the woman, who then dropped the case against the two teenagers,” said Al-Juaid.
However, since the woman was found to be an overstayer, she was taken to the deportation center.
Meanwhile, an Egyptian was arrested in the city’s Al-Samer district for stealing electric cables from a building under construction.
The cables are thought to be worth SR13,000.
“The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when the suspect was seen by witnesses trying to take advantage that no one was around,” said Al-Juaid.
The building owner realized that the cables were missing an hour later and informed the police who arrested the Egyptian man.
