Al-Muhawwes was traveling from Madinah to Hail when his car had a head-on collision with another car carrying four Egyptians 40 km away from the old Qassim road. Three people in the other car were also killed in the accident.

A delegation of officials of the Ministry of Interior led by Maj. Gen. Suleiman Al-Sahaimi visited the bereaved officer's relatives and conveyed the ministers’ condolences. They also attended the funeral prayers and burial rites.
