The cloudy sky illuminated with bright colors as the fireworks started by around 8:30 p.m. Firework shows took place simultaneously at different spots including the Dubai Creek Park, the area opposite the Heritage Village in Shandagha, Global Village and the Dubai Outlet Mall.

The event will last 32 days with raffle draw prizes, shopping attractions and entertainment for all ages with the fireworks to be held everyday.

Around 50 malls are taking part in DSF 2011 and about 150 special events are being planned during the festival. The shopping festival offers everything from gold to electronics, clothes and more during the festival. Airlines worldwide offer attractive package deals just for the festival and hotels in Dubai have discounted tariffs.
