- ISTANBUL: Diplomats say Iran and six world powers have begun talks to reduce concerns over Tehran’s nuclear program.
A diplomat familiar with the talks said on Tuesday that the powers will seek to nudge Iran toward acknowledging the need to reduce worries it might turn its uranium enrichment program to making weapons. He asked for anonymity because the talks are closed.
Tehran denies such aspirations, insisting it only wants to make nuclear fuel. But concerns have grown because the program can also produce fissile warhead material, and because Iran refuses to cooperate with attempts to investigate suspicions it ran nuclear weapon related experiments.
The two sides emerged from talks last month with wide differences. Iran insists it will never give into demand it give up enrichment, despite UN sanctions.
