Thackeray addressing the party workers stated "I'm very enthusiastic to meet you as always on my birthday. But unfortunately the situation has changed now and it would not be possible for me to step out of my house and address the public gathering on my birthday due to some security reasons. Pakistani terrorists had carried out deadly attacks at Gateway of India and Chhatrapti Shivaji Terminus on Nov. 26. The police had informed that similar kind of attack would be carried out again by the Pakistani terrorists at my birthday celebrations party where millions of Sena workers would assemble," Thackeray said.

The Sena chief elaborating further on the fear to his life from terrorists said, "The police machinery is fully geared to tackle the threat, but I would also advise my party workers to take utmost care for their safety at the function. You are going to assemble in millions out of love for me and celebrate my birthday. Some terrorist taking advantage of security loopholes would grab the opportunity to sneak in and carry out the deadly terror attack. Helplessly I regret that in view of the threat to my life from terrorists I would not be able to join you in the celebrations," Thackeray said.

"Though there are no restrictions for the party workers and well wishers to visit me at my residence. There cannot be any kind of ban on people visiting me. But at the same time it is also equally true that I cannot meet anyone due to security reasons. You have understood me and understand me and similarly understand me at this time too. I very humbly request you not to be angry because I did not meet you on my birthday. But my son Uddhav would definitely meet and welcome you all at my residence. If you want to donate a flower or money, the same can be deposited at the boxes kept at my residence and at party office in Dadar," Thackeray concluded.

According to information provided by Sanjay Raut, the Sena Member of Parliament and executive editor of Saamna, the Mumbai joint commissioner of police had informed Thackeray that there is a likely threat to his life from the terrorists at his birthday celebrations and advised the Sena chief against attending it. However, his son and Working President of the Sena, Uddhav Thackeray, would be present at the function to be held at Pushphakand Hall on Sunday.
