The weather in the western and southwestern regions of the Kingdom covering the provinces of Najran, Jazan, Asir, Baha, Makkah and Madinah are likely to be unsteady over the remaining days in the week.

Wadi Al-Dawaser in Riyadh province near the borders with Makkah and Asir provinces is also expected to experience precipitation.

Dust storms are also likely in the west and south west of the country, PME spokesman Hussain Al-Qahtani said on Sunday.

In conjunction with the Ministry of Education the Civil Defense has drawn up elaborate plans in the event of heavy rain as approximately four-million schoolchildren returned to class on Saturday to begin their two-week-long first semester examinations.

Schools have also been instructed to implement emergency measures in the event of a deluge. Worried parents are closely following weather forecasts.

In Jeddah there are 260,000 intermediate and secondary school students attending exams. Schools situated on natural flood routes (wadis) were shifted to safer regions at the end of last year.

Most parts of the Kingdom received heavy rains this month. Jeddah residents have not yet fully recovered from the shocking memory of the Nov. 25, 2009 flash floods in which at least 123 people died.
