Shah is a veteran politician who was first elected unopposed as member of the Northern Area advisory Council in 1970. Later, he joined Pakistan Peoples Party in 1972. He is a member of the legislative assembly.

Shah succeeds Shama Khalid who died Sept. 15, 2010.
