- NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russia: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin welcomed a decision by Germany’s Wintershall, a unit of BASF, to join Russia’s South Stream gas pipeline project.
“I am very pleased you concluded that it is worthwhile to participate in South Stream,” Putin, speaking at his suburban Moscow residence, told BASF Chief Executive Juergen Hambrecht.
Hambrecht told Putin he would sign a memorandum on joining South Stream, led by Russian natural gas export monopoly Gazprom on Monday, then sign a detailed agreement at a later date.
