Since its birth, Pakistan has come a long way as an independent, strong and an Islamic state. Today’s Pakistan, home of 180 million, is an important member of the world community. It has a democratic government, an independent judiciary, a thriving and free media and a vibrant civil society.

Despite many challenges, Pakistan’s economy continues to forge ahead. Its geo-strategic location linking Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East, excellent communication network and well-developed transport infrastructure offer great opportunities for the investors. A large pool of trained and experienced engineers, bankers, lawyers and other professionals with substantial international experience is an asset for Pakistan’s economic prosperity.

Pakistan’s contribution to the maintenance of peace and security in the world can hardly be matched by any other state. It is one of the largest contributors to the international forces for maintenance of peace and security around the globe. As a front-line state in the war against terror, we have paid a heavy price in terms of loss of precious lives and billions of dollars to the economy. Thousands of our innocent people and valiant soldiers have laid down their lives in the noble cause of eradicating our soil from the forces that espouse hatred and obscurantism. Even our beloved leader, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, also died a martyr at the hands of terrorists. But this has only made us more determined and resolute.

Relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are unique, marked by mutual sentiments of fraternity. The peoples and the leadership of the two countries share common perception on all bilateral, regional and international issues. Based on solid foundations of Islamic identity, common historical experiences, commonality of perceptions on all national and international issues, these relations continue to grow from strength to strength.

Being the holy land, Pakistanis have special love and reverence for Saudi Arabia. They also have deep love and respect for Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and the entire Saudi government. We share the joy of our Saudi brothers and sisters on the happy return of King Abdullah to the homeland and pray for his long life.

The 1.5 million strong Pakistan community in the Kingdom is contributing toward the development of both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and acts as a bridge between the two countries. I would like to urge the Pakistani brethren to continue to play their constructive role with dedication and honesty. It is also incumbent upon them to abide by the laws of Saudi Arabia and refrain from undertaking any activities that may tarnish Pakistan’s image.

In the end, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the government and the people of Saudi Arabia for standing by Pakistan in its difficult times. I pray for the progress and prosperity of the brotherly people of Saudi Arabia.
