Carlo Van Wageningen, the chairman of Lake Turkana Wind Power, said the project is 10 months behind schedule because of delays by the government to give support guarantees.

Joseph Kinyua, the permanent secretary at Kenya’s Ministry of Finance, says the letter of support given by the government Saturday is a commitment to undertake payments if LTWP’s main customer, Kenya Power and Lighting Company, fails to pay for the electricity it will receive.

Kinyua said the letter of support will help LTWP raise funds for the project from financiers.
