There are signs that Ajit would land in big trouble for confronting powerful state opposition, Congress and NCP ministers as well as the media head-on at the same time, according to Congress sources.

Ajit, along with Chavan, had demanded the suspension of 14 Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) legislators who had created a ruckus when he was delivering the state budget in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Feb. 23.

He had also been putting pressure on Chavan to suspend state BJP president and legislator Sudhir Mungatiwar, MNS legislator Shishir Shinde and some prominent opposition leaders till the end of 2014.

However, Chavan strongly opposed this and conveyed his displeasure about his deputy’s behavior and attitude to the NCP president Sharad.

A senior congress leader told Arab News that Ajit expressed his ire against Chavan for not accepting his demand and said that he was not happy with the suspension of the nine legislators, who he termed as insignificant.

Another Congress leader said that Chavan told Sharad that because of his adamant and rude behavior, Ajit was placing the state government in an awkward situation and that as chief minister he was finding it difficult to support him. Chavan also told the NCP chief to keep his nephew under check as the image of the state government was being maligned and battered among the people because of Ajit’s attitude.

During his meeting with Pawar, Chavan recalled the confrontation Ajit had with journalists last month in Nanded town. The journalists called for a boycott of Ajit and state government functions and repercussions of the ban were felt throughout the state. Sharad had to apologize for his nephew’s behavior, after which the reporters dropped their boycott.

Chavan also told Pawar that Ajit has started confronting all political parties heads-on. Even senior NCP leaders and powerful ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil and Ramraje Nimbalkar expressed annoyance with the behavior of Ajit. Senior Congress leaders and state ministers Narayan Rane, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and Harshavardan Patil too were critical of Ajit’s behavior and have openly stated there are signs that there would be a political blast against Ajit in the future, ending his political career.
