- NEW YORK: On Thursday, March 31, a coalition representing national and local Muslim organizations and their interfaith and civic supporters will hold a press conference on the steps of City Hall to announce their endorsement and participation in the April 9 anti-war and anti-Islamophobia rally.
The rally is organized by the United National Anti-war Committee and is endorsed by more than 500 peace, justice, labor, civic, religious, and civil liberties organizations around the country.
At the press conference organized by the Muslim Peace Coalition, USA and the Islamic Leadership Council of Metropolitan New York, a group of 100 Imams will release a statement initiated by the coalition, calling for an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, condemning terrorism and thanking American individuals and groups who are standing with the Muslim community against Islamophobia.
Also at the press conference will be representatives of national Muslim organizations, in addition to interfaith and civic partners and a representative of the United National Anti-War Committee.
The Muslim Peace Coalition is the first national coalition of its kind. Muslim peace activists and organizations from 15 states and growing came together in 2010 to form this coalition to promote peace, respect, and understanding, in response to the growing polarization, fear, and hate mongering in the society.
