He has found his old scoring form back, and more.

Showing to everyone that he still has a lot of moves left in his 34-year-old body, Seigle registered his second straight double-double, import Alpha Bangura poured in 32 points, and Air21 overcame Powerade Sunday night, 108-98, to move on the threshold of advancing to the quarterfinal round of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Colizeum.

“I just love going out there and making a big impact in any way I can,” said Seigle. “I love to compete and I love winning. I have a bigger role here (Air21), not in only scoring.”

Seigle scored 23 points, eight coming in the fourth quarter, and grabbed 12 rebounds. That was the second game in a row he submitted twin-digit statistics in scoring and in rebounding after an 18-point, 12-rebound effort in the Express’ 110-101 victory over Meralco on March 30.

A franchise that previously had a difficult time coming together as a cohesive unit after the blockbuster trade, Air21 is now one win away from advancing to the playoffs, which the Express can clinch if they triumph over the Alaska Aces on Wednesday.

“Nilagay kami ng Diyos sa ganitong sitwasyon, and we will try our best na makapasok sa next round,” said Express coach Bong Ramos. “Nanduon ang pressure. We’re the only team right now na may bearing ang mga laro. Next stop, Alaska.”

The cast for the quarterfinals took a dramatic shape last Friday when Derby Ace dropped a 107-102 decision to ‘N Text on April 1. That result gave Alaska, Ginebra and Rain or Shine outright berths in the quarterfinals. The Tropang Texters and guest team Smart-Gilas, which lost to Meralco Saturday in Tacloban City (91-87), are already assured of automatic semifinals berths.

Dondon Hontiveros added 17 points and Josh Urbiztondo came off the bench to score eight of his 10 points in the final period, the stretch in the game when Air21 unleashed the decisive run to frustrate Powerade’s aspirations of playing the spoilers’ role.

“Basketball is a game of momentum. Isang pagkakamali lang mag-iiba ang takbo,” said Ramos. “Hopefully we continue to jell. The chemistry is already there.”

Later in the night, Talk ‘N Text secured the No. 1 seed in the semifinal round, holding back Ginebra, 102-99, and extending its winning streak in the tournament at eight games.

The Texters had to stay solid after losing a 20-point (59-39) advantage, heaving a sigh of relief the moment Mark Caguio’a three-point shot with two seconds left to play misfired.

Talk ‘N Text finished the preliminary round with an 8-1 slate, the third consecutive time that the franchise has owned the top seed.

“That’s nice (to clinch No. 1 spot),” said TNT coach Chot Reyes. “But it doesn’t count now unless I’m able to come into this room (press room) from hereon. The aim is to remain sharp and get ready for whoever comes in our way in the semifinals. In the end, it’s really the players’ internal drive and motivation that will matter.”

Ginebra ended its elimination round assignment with a 5-4 record.

Import Paul Harris had 23 points and nine rebounds, and Harvey Carey collected 12 rebounds and 11 points for Talk ‘N Text, aiming to become the first back-to-back champion since Ginebra in 2005.

Nate Brumfield scored 26 points, 22 in the second half, and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Kings, while Caguioa had 25 points, 17 coming also in the second half.

Ginebra tied the game for the last time at 95-95 on an uncompleted three-point play by Brumfield, and came to within 100-99 on a basket by Caguioa with 54.9 seconds to go.

But Talk ‘N Text held Ginebra scoreless from there, with Brumfield missing a shot with 8.2 seconds left. Harris had a split in the last 25.6 seconds and Jason Castro could also hit one of two free throws in the final 7.6 seconds for the final count.

Air21 actually led by as large as 62-51, but then Powerade ended the third quarter on top, 82-76. The Tigers were still ahead 90-89 before things got out of control.

Urbiztondo knocked in a triple to kick off a 14-2 blast and hit another in the middle of the run, while Seigle punctuated the assault with a throw-down as the Express totally ruled  the contest with a 103-93 advantage, time down to the final 1:25.

Martin Zeno scored 37 points to pace Powerade, which will miss the quarterfinals for the sixth straight time. The last tournament the Tigers competed in the quarterfinals was in the 2008-09 Fiesta Conference.

Gary David added 18 points while Chico Lanete and Ricky Calimag each added 10 points for Powerade, which finished the short nine-game elimination round with only two wins to show.
