The Galaxy held on despite playing most of the second half a man down following a red card to midfielder Chris Birchall in the 53rd minute. Beckham earned a yellow card in the 90th for delaying play.

At Harrison, New York, recent acquisition Dwayne De Rosario set up a goal to help the Red Bulls to a draw with Houston.

The Red Bulls acquired Canadian midfielder De Rosario from Toronto FC on Friday in exchange for Tony Tchani, Danleigh Borman and a draft pick. They hoped he could create chances for Thierry Henry and Juan Agudelo, but started off by feeding Dane Richards for a goal in the 47th minute against the Dynamo.

Cam Weaver equalized in the 50th minute when Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul ventured too far out of goal.

At Toronto, Alan Gordon scored the equalizer against his former team to help Toronto earn the draw with Chivas.

Alejandro Moreno scored for Chivas less than three minutes into the game, netting a goal from about 10 yards out after a poor clearing effort by Toronto's defense.

Brazilian striker Camillo Sanvezzo scored twice in injury time to give Vancouver a home draw with Kansas City.

Vancouver trailed 2-0 after Teal Bunbury scored in the 45th and 58th minutes, before Kei Kamara added another in the 63rd.

Atibi Harris started the comeback 10 minutes later, and Sanvezzo, making his MLS debut in place of suspended striker Eric Hassli, scored twice in extra time.

Jack Jewsbury scored in the 38th minute as Portland held on for a draw at New England New England took the lead in the 22nd minute when rookie midfielder Stephen McCarthy scored his first career MLS goal, a drive into the lower left corner after Portland's David Horst had headed the ball out.

Jewsbury equalized it with a left-footed drive into the far right corner after a nice touch pass from Jeremy Hall.

At Santa Clara, California, Khari Stephenson scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute, as San Jose kept Seattle winless.

Newly acquired Earthquakes midfielder Simon Dawkins, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, scored his first MLS goal in the 32nd minute to keep San Jose close.
