He has worked for Jamaat in different capacities including state president in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, general secretary and vice president of the organization.

He was in New Delhi to attend Jamaat’s Representative Council meeting to elect the organization’s new all-India president.

“With heavy hearts we condole the people of India and the Muslim community on the sad demise of Maulana Shafi Moonis,” said Zafarul-Islam Khan, president, All-India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat.

“He was a great pillar of the Indian Muslim community for the last six decades and played an active and leading role in all the affairs of the community,” he added. “Moonis was known for his considered views and steely steadfastness for Muslim causes,” said Khan.

Maulana Jalaluddin Umari, president of Jamaat, expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Moonis and commended the late scholar’s countless services to the community.

Moonis was one of the first individuals to join the Islamic organization in united India. He represented the Jamaat in FDCA, Muslim Personal Law Board and Religious Education Council.
