“The mayoralty will go ahead with the plan to confront effect of torrential floods in order to keep the city clean and its streets without potholes,” the mayor said while answering a question of the chairman of Jeddah Municipal Council Hussein Baaqeel.

The municipal council meeting, which was attended by all members, discussed the organization’s relation with Jeddah Development Company, which is carrying out the mayoralty’s projects.

Baaqeel said during the meeting a report on the increasing number of dengue fever cases in Jeddah was presented.

As many as 32 dengue fever cases have been reported so far and the council wanted to know the reasons for the increase in the cases.

Speaking about the maintenance of roads and streets damaged by the floods, Aburas said priority would be given for the repairing of main roads. “We are trying to increase the allocation for annual road repairs by SR25 million,” he said.

Baaqeel opposed the centralization of project monitoring and said local municipalities should be given the power to monitor projects in their areas in order to ensure efficient implementation. The chairman commended the services of Abdul Aziz Al-Aqqad, former council secretary who has got a job at the mayoralty.
