“However, those who moved to a new district will have to register again,” a source said on Saturday. Registration will start on April 23, while candidates can start registering on May 29 for the elections that will take place on Sept. 22.

The duration for registration will be for five hours from the afternoon prayer on Saturdays through Wednesdays and on Thursdays for five hours in the morning, according to a source in the General Election Commission. All adult Saudi men are eligible to vote.

In another development, the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) demanded that women should be allowed to participate in the municipal elections.

The municipal election regulations stipulate that all Saudi municipal officials are eligible to vote but cannot run for office. No current council member is allowed to contest, either.

All duties related to the election will be distributed among the local election committees, which comprise members of the provincial governor's office, members of law enforcement and local education officials.
