- DUBAI: Popular Indian playback singer K.S.
- Chithra’s eight-year-old daughter Nandana drowned in a swimming pool at a villa in Emirates Hill, which is 30 km away from the city.
Chithra arrived in town with her husband and daughter to take part in a musical event at Sharjah cricket stadium which was scheduled for Friday. Some other celebrities including AR Rehana, sister of A.R. Rahman, Naresh Iyer, Sayanora, Abdul Salam and others are in town for the show. Chithra’s daughter Nandana was believed to be an autistic child, so the singer used to take daughter along with her as she was a child with special needs.
“She accidentally fell into the swimming pool and drowned. She was rescued and rushed to the Jebel Ali Cedar hospital, by around 9.15 a.m., but she was declared dead,” said a source close to them.
“All singers and their families opted to live in a hotel apartment, Karama, but Chithra and family decided to stay at a friend’s villa because she thought it would be safe and she could give more attention to her daughter,” he added.
Dubai Police team has inspected the site and launched a probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, organizers said the show will run as scheduled with a special prayer for the deceased.
