Guangzhou Hengda said Tuesday that Renato was punished because he did not shake hands with his coach or show his thanks to the fans after he was substituted in a 2-2 draw with Beijing Guo’an on Sunday.

It said euro14,000 ($20,000) would be deducted from Rentao’s salary and he would be fined another euro32,000 ($46,000).

The team said Renato was also suspended for at least three matches.

Hengda brought Renato to China from the Brazilian club Botafogo on a four-year deal worth euro1.75 million ($2.25 million).
