- ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army’s Chief of Staff Gen.
- Ashfaq Parvez Kayani told top brass and key government figures early Sunday that Pakistan was not facing external threats but internal strife was becoming a real challenge.
At a ceremony held at the General Headquarters of Pakistan Army attended by Senate Chairman Farooq Naik, National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza, cabinet members and senior army officers to pay tribute to martyrs and soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting militants, Kayani acknowledged the sacrifices and contribution of the Army in facing all kinds of internal and external challenges which includes calamities and national rehabilitation/reconstruction as well as confronting the threat of violent extremism.
Kayani reiterated that Pakistan is a peaceful country and wants to maintain good and friendly relations with all other countries. He said he fully realizes that only a prosperous Pakistan is a guarantee for a stronger Pakistan. Therefore, all efforts should be toward making Pakistani people prosperous and secure.
“We believe in one force, one family and one nation. Our people, soldiers and martyrs are together in life and death and shall remain together forever,” he concluded.
