- JEDDAH: Nafisa Shams Academy for Art and Craft, a program initiated by the Bab Rizq Jameel under Abdul Latif Jameel Social Initiative, has undertaken the production of gifts to be distributed to the dignitaries participating in an international cancer conference.
It designed and produced special carpets as gifts to important participants in the conference.
The dignitaries include Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Princess Sita bint Abdullah, Higher Education Minister Khaled Al-Anqari, Director General of Al-Husain Cancer Foundation Dina Merad, World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Cancer Control Nancy Brinker and former US first lady Laura Bush.
It also produced soap using Taif roses, the local logo for the breast cancer fight. The academy has also made an agreement with the public relations committee of the conference to make prayer mats for the participating dignitaries.
The academy’s initiative has been bolstered by the policy of government agencies to distribute gifts of Saudi handicraft items and not imported ones.
The academy aims to improve the local talent by offering training to Saudis artisans in the field of handicrafts making.
