President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath of office. Those who took the oath include Babar Khan Ghauri, Farooq Sattar and Nadeem Ahsan.

The MQM was making Cabinet slots adjustment with PML (Q) which has recently joined PPP-led federal government.

The MQM is likely to be offered portfolios of ports and shipping and information technology. The Karachi-based party had earlier demanded the foreign ministry portfolio but after the PPP gained a comfortable majority following the PML-Q's entrance into the Cabinet, the MQM has had to show flexibility.

The MQM had also demanded that constituencies where it has strong vote banks should not be altered in the proposed delimitation planned after the census.
