- JEDDAH: Customs agents in the Eastern Province have foiled an attempt by unidentified people to smuggle huge quantities of gold jewelry and liquor hidden in the hood of a car into the Kingdom across King Fahd Causeway.
Officials seized about 75 kilograms of gold jewelry kept in plastic bags from the car, Director General of Causeway Customs Ghannam Al-Ghannam said on Wednesday.
He said 101 liquor bottles were also seized. He did not say whether anyone was arrested.
“Some of the items were taped using duct tape under the passenger seats of the vehicle,” Al-Ghannam said.
He added that customs agents are keeping a close watch on smugglers “who with their actions might compromise the country’s security.”
