The Asian Tour rookie made a pivotal up-and-down for par on the last hole to close with one-over-par 73 to clinch his second international title in the span of two weeks at the challenging Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Manila.

Bayron battled to a 72 to finish in second place for a 284 total, one stroke off the champion. South Africa’s Jbe Kruger, who finished second on three occasions last year, endured another agonising day when he placed third on 285. Digvijay Singh of India was a stroke back in fourth as he secured his first top-five placing since 2003.

“I feel like I went 72 rounds with Manny Pacquiao this week and didn’t get K.O. I played on a very difficult golf course and the weather was brutal. It was a hard win,” said Henson, who won with a total of five-under-par 283.

Clarke ends three-year title drought

In Mallorca, Spain, Ryder Cup veteran Darren Clarke overcame an overnight four-shot deficit to win the Iberdrola Open on Sunday, his 13th European Tour title but first for three years.

The Northern Irishman, 42, carded a final-round 69 for a six-under-par total for the tournament, three ahead of the English duo of Chris Wood, who had led after the second and third rounds, and David Lynn.

Clarke, the Ryder Cup vice-captain, had reduced the deficit to one within three holes, but a double bogey at the 11th after finding water looked to have cost him a first win since the 2008 Dutch Open.

But he recovered in style, holing a putt from the fringe at the 14th while hitting his approach to six feet at the 15th.

Wood had major problems on the back nine — three-putting the 12th and 13th and driving out of bounds at the 15th as he carded a final-round 70 to finish three-over for the tournament.

McDowell takes lead into final round

In Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Britain’s Graeme McDowell double-bogeyed the 18th hole on his third round on Sunday but had a one-stroke lead over South Korean K.J. Choi and American David Toms heading into the final round of the Players Championship.

Players had to return at 7:45 a.m. local (1145 GMT) to complete their third round, which was heavily delayed by rain on Saturday.

McDowell continued his consistent form with birdies on the 10th, 16th and 17th before a freakish piece of bad luck cost him two shots on the final hole.

The Northern Irishman drove to the right of the green to a promising position but his ball took a wicked kick off the moguls by the green, rolled all the way across the green and into the water to the left.

Nonetheless McDowell looks a good bet for his first win of the year given the confident and uncomplicated way he has approached the TPC Sawgrass.

The 44-year-old Toms, however, without a win in five years, has been close to the lead since Friday and had only a bogey on the ‘island green’ 17th to blemish another solid round.

American Nick Watney slipped to three shots off the lead after a dreadful back nine with a double on the 14th followed by bogeys on the next two holes.
