“Abbas was chosen to this prestigious position for his rich academic record which is abundant with accomplishments in the field of engineering and consultancy and for his effective contributions to the programs and projects of FIDIC,” a statement said. It added that Abbas is now an internationally accredited trainer for all the activities of the organization in Saudi Arabia and the other GCC countries. “His selection to this post will further boost the engineering consultancies in the region,” the statement added. Abbas is one of the oldest engineering arbitrators in the Kingdom. He holds a British Ph.D. in engineering and administration of structures. He is also a fellow in the British Institute of Arbitrators. He delivered a number of lectures, wrote a number of books and published more than 35 research papers on engineering arbitration.

Abbas is the chairman of the Arab Union of Engineering Arbitration Centers.

The FIDIC was established in 1913 in Switzerland to provide engineering consultancy worldwide.
