Mayor Dhaifullah bin Aish Al-Otaibi, Undersecretary Shujae bin Yahya Al-Muslih, heads of departments and senior officials of the municipality attended the workshop.

Municipal spokesperson Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz Al-Safyan said the workshop was the first step toward improving the 692 gas stations in the province in addition to those on the highways.

He said the workshop witnessed a presentation on the current condition of gas stations and reviewed model stations in the province and in neighboring countries.

Al-Safyan said the workshop reviewed suggestions about the mechanisms for promoting existing gas stations, upgrading services and maintaining the stations. He said the municipality would not issue licenses to build new stations or refurbish the existing ones, before they show strict commitment to the work plan.

He said a circular was sent to the owners of all the gas stations asking them to begin the program aimed at improving the situation and supplied each one of them with a copy of the rules and regulations concerning the building and running of gas stations.

Al-Safyan said a technical committee was formed to meet regularly to study and approve applications for repair and improvement of gas stations to be submitted by the owners.
