The Republican Party of India (Athawale) (RPI-A) chief Ramdas Athawale said, "I don't have any second thoughts on the tie up with the saffron brigade in the state. This is the time when we have to come together on an ideological platform. And we will declare our political alliance and equations in October 2011."

The bitterness in Athawale's speech and hate for the Congress party and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders was loud and clear. "This alliance is for social change and not politics. Our tie up with the saffron brigade should not come as a surprise as the NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who had separated from the Congress to start his own NCP, later joined the Congress president Sonia Gandhi in an alliance."

Athawale lashed out at Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil and Public Works Department Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, both from the NCP, for saying that Athawale's alliance with the Sena and BJP was "opportunistic."

"We shall leave our ideological differences behind and look for the way forward," Athawale said.

In another development, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Anant Shinde suspended five policemen and a sub-inspector and transferred two police inspectors to the headquarters. The strict action against the policemen and police officers were taken following gross human rights violations. The policemen were suspended and transferred for alleged beating up a suspected criminal, the video clipping of which had been uploaded on YouTube.
