The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has been trying to find someone who would donate the amount needed to settle the debt. The NSHR took the initiative to transfer the patient from the prison to the King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah. Arab News published the man’s plight on June 1.

NSHR Supervisor General in Jeddah Hassan Al-Sharif said he welcomed publication of individual issues in media if it helped to solve the issue. He said family abuse, prisoner problems and medical errors topped the list of complaints received by the NSHR.

“The NSHR would like to mobilize public opinion on issues that affect society in general such as the poor municipal services,” he said.

He added that his office was in constant touch with the officials of the Jeddah Municipality following increasing complaints from the residents in the districts east of the Haramain Expressway about the pollution caused by concrete breakers and large trucks.

“However the municipal authorities have assured us that most pollution problems will end with the completion of the ongoing development projects in that area,” he said.

He also advised that people should first try the departments concerned to get a problem solved and they should seek the help of the NSHR only if their efforts fail.

He said people should complain to the municipality on the number allotted for complaints so that the complaint is registered automatically.
