- ARLINGTON, Texas: Javier Hernandez scored three goals as Mexico thrashed El Salvador 5-0 on Sunday in the opening match for both teams at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Hernandez’ first was a header in the 60th minute. Seven minutes later, he scored from inside 10 yards for Mexico’s fourth goal in a 12-minute span. Hernandez chipped in from the penalty spot in stoppage time to complete a hat trick.
Efrain Juarez scored the game’s first goal, swooping on a rebound after El Salvador goalkeeper Miguel Montes parried his first shot.
