Andrew Bridgen says he is willingly cooperating with police after being bailed on Thursday following allegations of assaulting a 29-year-old woman in central London.

In a statement posted on his website Friday, Bridgen said he will make no further comments while police are investigating, but has canceled his constituency meeting for the day.

Bridgen, a 46-year-old married father of two, entered Britain’s Parliament in the general election last year which ushered the Conservative-led coalition government into power.

His party has declined to discuss the arrest, saying it is a matter for the police.
