- JEDDAH: The Jeddah Municipality conducted an experimental-phase opening on Friday of a new overpass at the intersection of Prince Majed Road and Bin Baz street.
“The SR50-million bridge was completed in over 18 months even though the work was suspended for eight months in order to redesign the overpass to suit future plans for refurbishing the underpass at Bin Baz Street for smoother traffic,” said Director General of Bridges and Tunnels at the municipality, Wadee Abu Al-Hamail, in a statement issued Saturday.
The redesign involved expanding the width of the entrance to Bin Baz Street from 40 meters to 55 meters, he added.
The municipality has commissioned two more intersection modernization projects: One at Madinah Road and Al-Amal Street at a cost of SR94 million and the other at Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz Road and Makarona Street at a cost of SR74 million. The two projects are scheduled to be completed within two years, municipal officials have said.
