- JOHANNESBURG: A South African health department official says a fire at a home for the elderly and disabled near Johannesburg killed 12 people.
Sello Mokoena, spokesman for the provincial health department, said 27 people were injured in the fire Monday.
He spoke as firefighters surveyed the charred wreckage of the early morning fire.
He says the cause of the blaze was not yet clear.
