- NEW YORK: The US State Department says India has lodged two protests over the arrest of a diplomat's daughter.
- Krittika Biswas was removed from her New York City school in handcuffs and held for more than 24 hours in February.
She was accused of sending nasty emails to her teacher but was later cleared of wrongdoing. The US says the Indian Consulate General in New York asserted in a Feb. 9 diplomatic note that Biswas' arrest was a violation of the Vienna Convention.
The US sympathized with Biswas but said diplomats' relatives don't have immunity. The Indian Embassy lodged a separate protest in April. The city has declined to comment on Biswas' $1.5 million lawsuit. She's the daughter of Debashish Biswas, vice consul at the Consulate General of India in New York.
