Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour bin Miteb, Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed and Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras will also be present.

The project is to be undertaken by the Jeddah Development Urban Regeneration Co.

“The 3 million square meter project aims to build a model residential suburb of 1,250 buildings with integrated utilities that would serve all residents in the suburb. While 52 percent of the project will be allocated to residential constructions, 11 percent will be set apart for commercial establishments, utilities and general services and 37 percent for roads, open spaces, amusement areas, gardens and car parks,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, Prince Khaled was briefed on a project to identify natural resources on the Red Sea coast between Jazan and Laith as part of efforts to preserve the sea’s ecology in a meeting at the governor’s office in Jeddah on Tuesday.

President of King Abdulaziz University (KAU) Osama Taib and KAU scientists who participated in the preparation of the study were also present at the meeting.

The project aims to prepare a detailed database on coastal and marine resources in the Red Sea. The scientists prepared the study after conducting coastal and marine explorations in the area. They also collected information on the environment and ecology, biodiversity, state of the coastline and the extent of exposure to hostile factors.

The study recommended a number of measures to protect the environment of the area, including declaring as nature reserves selected locations known for their biodiversity or rare resources.

If any location cannot be converted into a nature reserve, measures to restrict any human activity that would harm the ecology of such area should be adopted. Another recommendation is to conduct periodic ecological surveys of the area.
