The committee met at the Maternity and Children's Hospital. It is comprised of a consultant pediatrician, a psychiatrist, a pediatrics surgeon, a female psychologist and a female social worker.

Badawood said the committee discussed the mechanism of its work and the services to provide to the victimized children.

“The committee will study the psychological and physical harms caused to young girls. It will also consider the negative effects they may suffer in the future,” he said.

Badawood said the committee will cooperate with other concerned government departments to assist the victims overcome their ordeal so that it will not have any adverse effects on their future. “It will also help the families get over this predicament,” he added.

Meanwhile, police received Wednesday a number of the victims to collect more evidence against the man accused of abducting and raping at least 13 and possibly as many as 16 girls, at least one as young as eight, in a series of sex crimes going back to 2008. The man, whose name has been published in some of the Arabic press, has been identified as a schoolteacher and a married father of five children.

Police say DNA evidence, testimony from the victims that unanimously identify him, and several victims' testimony that identify the prime suspect's home where most or all of the rapes took place all link him to the crimes. It is believed the man took his family to a rest-house — a common location for vacationing or traveling Saudi families — and then made up reasons why he had to return to Jeddah, where he allegedly stalked and abducted his prey and took his victims to his home to commit the sexual assaults before releasing them.

At least 12 of the victims were believed to be taken to his south Jeddah home for the assaults. He is believed to have used three different vehicles, all registered to him, including one that was later sold to a man in Riyadh.

The police said they would send a circular to all police stations to ask families if they had young girls who were kidnapped and released between 2008 and 2011.

According to press reports, the PIC has received the case file and were listening to the affidavits of victims through specialists. The suspect has claimed he is innocent.

Unlike murder, rape is a capital crime in Islamic law for which blood money cannot be paid.
