On June 8, three Asian truck drivers working for a transport company in Jeddah disappeared with the goods that were supposed to be delivered to the consignee, a dealer of household electronics in Makkah province.

Among those arrested were the three truck drivers, an Asian warehouse storekeeper and a local businessman who had agreed to purchase the entire consignment for a price less than the market value. The estimated value of each container was SR1 million.

According to sources, the police apprehended the culprits when they were negotiating a price with the businessman.

After questioning the storekeeper, the police found the goods hidden in the warehouse as the truck drivers had kept them there until they were sold on.

The three truck drivers admitted to the police that they had willfully committed the crime. It was revealed during investigations that the storekeeper had been the broker between the truck drivers and the local businessman. The truck drivers are in their 30s, while the storekeeper is in his mid-40s.

On the day of the incident, the transport company’s management had requested the three Asian drivers to load the shipment from the Jeddah seaport in their trucks and deliver them to the consignee, whose warehouse is located in a Jeddah suburb.

A few days after the theft, the police found two of the three trucks abandoned in Al-Hamra district of Jeddah.

After completion of a police inquiry, the five suspects will be produced with the stolen goods before a court in Jeddah.
