- BERLIN: The German government says China has signed a purchase agreement with European aircraft maker Airbus for 62 new A320 aircraft.
The French-German company signed the agreement on the sidelines of a visit to Berlin by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
Terms and details of the agreement were not released, and Airbus spokesman Stefan Schaffrath reached in France would not confirm the size of the order. He said only that it was for a “double-digit number of A320s.”
At last week’s Paris Air Show, Airbus claimed more than $72 billion worth of orders and commitments, including an agreement with AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes on an $18.5 billion order for 200 of Airbus’ A320neo. The new plane was the star of the aviation industry’s premier event.
