The production will open at a Shubert theater to be announced soon. Rickman, who plays professor Severus Snape in the "Potter" franchise, will portray a literary legend who teaches a private seminar for four young awe-struck writers. The play will be directed by Sam Gold. Rebeck's other plays include "Mauritius" and "The Understudy."

Rickman follows "Potter" co-star Daniel Radcliffe to Broadway, where the younger man is belting out show tunes in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Radcliffe made his Broadway debut in a revival of "Equus." He played the titular character in the Harry Potter films.
