- SINGAPORE: Train enthusiasts, tourists and officials are thronging an iconic 1930s railway station in downtown Singapore hours before a Malaysian sultan drives out its last train.
Singapore early Thursday takes control of the station and 16 miles (26 kilometers) of tracks to the Malaysian border under an agreement the countries reached after years of negotiations that had become an irritant in bilateral relations.
Traveler Ann Chia, who lives in Malaysia and often took the train to visit her sister in Singapore, said she will miss the station because its central location made navigation easier.
The station known for its Neoclassical and Art-Deco architecture will be preserved as a national monument.
