- KHAR, Pakistan: A government official says about 60 militants crossed into Pakistan's northwest from Afghanistan and attacked a paramilitary checkpoint, killing one soldier.
Shah Nasim says the militants launched Monday's early morning attack in the Bajour region with mortar and rocket fire that covered their subsequent advance onto the Frontier Corps checkpoint. The checkpoint is located near Kitkot village in Pakistan's Mamound area of Bajour.
Nasim, a senior official in Mamound, said soldiers fought the militants for more than two hours before reinforcements arrived and managed to push the attackers back over the border into Afghanistan's Kunar province.
