- STOCKHOLM: A Swedish appeals court has found the parents of an Afghan man guilty of a grisly honor killing for which their son had already served prison time.
The Gota Appeals Court on Tuesday sentenced Raoof Ataei and Leyla Ataei to 10 years each in prison for the 2005 murder of their daughter’s boyfriend, and deportation after serving their terms.
The victim had burning oil thrown in his face before he was beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed repeatedly.
The couple’s 23-year-old son, Abdulmajid Ataei, confessed to the murder and spent four years in prison. But after his release he changed his story and said he had taken the blame to protect his parents.
The couple denied the charges, maintaining that their son carried out the murder.
