- DHAKA: A fire official says people have set fire to at least six vehicles in Bangladesh's capital on the eve of an opposition-sponsored, 48-hour general strike across the country.
Main opposition parties called the strike that starts on Wednesday to protest a new constitutional amendment they believe could allow incumbents to rig elections.
Fire official Mohammad Morshed says the vehicles were set on fire separately Tuesday and no one was injured.
The constitutional change rescinded a 15-year-old requirement that general elections be overseen by nonpartisan caretaker governments after a government ends its five-year term.
