- Once again, in “Man-made global warming (June 29), Francis Andrew has not failed to astound the reader with his ability to contradict himself and then bang a round peg in a square hole.
Andrew has been going on for far too long about how CO2 pollution couldn’t possibly be the cause of global warming and then he turns right around and tells us that we should be pumping even more C02 into the atmosphere to raise the temperature in case an asteroid strikes us. Perhaps Andrew is cheerfully unaware that he can’t have it both ways. Either he stands by his assertion that the notorious “greenhouse” gas C02 doesn’t raise the temperature; or he admits his error and acknowledges that it most certainly does raise the temperature. Given his support of those two tiresome science fiction writers Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramsinghe who propose pumping even more CO2 into the atmosphere in order to raise the temperature, it’s an obvious fact that Andrew now believes that man-made global warming is a fact! Andrew will probably be surprised to know that the amount of C02 pollution pumped out by industry has been increasing dramatically over the years and the temperature has been rising because of it.
