I fail to understand why bring religion in this very specific society-based cultural issue. Are Saudi women a different breed from rest of the Muslim women all across the world?

Doesn’t Majid know that in most of the Muslim countries women are no less than men in any field — women are educationalists, scientists, engineers, doctors, surgeons, lawyers, financial controllers, bankers, journalists, film directors, bureaucrats, politicians, government functionaries including country’ president and prime ministers, army and police officers. And this is not limited to educated urban women, with rural areas women too equally sharing the responsibility. They fetch water from rivers and wells, work in fields and farmlands, raise livestock, run cottage industry etc. I doubt whether all these women have gone through the Khan’s proposal of returning back to source of religion to have a fruitful dialogue. Please don’t confuse cultural issues and tribal values with religion. This will provide just fuel to religious extremists to make matters worse. When the former French finance minister can take charge of world’s most powerful financial body — IMF, why not one day a Saudi woman be able to take a similar charge.
