Activists have sued over the deaths of two pregnant women.

The court was to hear the case Thursday but the court registrar said not enough judges were present.

Activists say those women died because they did not pay adequate bribes to government medical workers. Government hospitals are supposed to provide free care.

According to government statistics, 16 pregnant Ugandan women die each day.

Health ministry spokeswoman Rukia Nakamatte says 435 out of 100,000 Ugandan women die in childbirth.
