- BEIJING: Controlling price rises remains the top priority for the Chinese government but any policy steps should avoid causing big fluctuations in the economy, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said in comments published on Tuesday.
The reiteration of Beijing’s policy stance, which was published on the central government’s website, comes after official data showed inflation in June quickened to a three-year high of 6.4 percent, driven by soaring food costs.
Wen also said the government would use “various” monetary policy tools to fight inflation, but he did not elaborate.
