During a meeting of the  corps commanders, chaired by Gen. Ashfaque Pervez Kayani, the armed forces decided to fight terrorism in the national interest through its own resources.

The corps commanders were briefed about the security situation in the country in general, and ongoing operations in Kurram and Mohmand agencies, in particular. Matters of operational preparedness were also discussed.

Gen. Kayani, in his opening remarks, appreciated the conduct of ongoing operations. Referring to Mohmand Agency, he said that all activities must be carried out in coordination with civil administration for the safe return of the displaced people.

He said that the aim of the operation in Kurram Agency is to clear the area of miscreants involved in terrorism, kidnapping, killing of locals and blocking of road connecting lower with upper Kurram. Gen. Kayani lauded the support of locals in flushing out terrorists from their area.

Pakistan Army  which remained an important ally of US-led NATO alliance opted to utilize national resources  at a time when the US has halted its assistance of 8$00 million to Pakistan military.
