“As long as there is no proposal, there is no declsion,” Thieme said, saying she was not aware of any formal preselection or preliminary decision to find a successor to Ackermann, whose contract runs until 2013.

Thieme represents “leading employees” in Germany on the 20-member supervisory board that has to formally approve the appointment of a new Chief Executive.

Employee representatives have encouraged Ackermann to make himself available as a candidate for the supervisory board, she said, adding that he had not signalled an aversion to the idea.

A regular supervisory board meeting is scheduled for July 26, she added.

German press agency DPA first reported that Thieme was not aware of a decision in the succession issue.
